Caregivers working in the classroom are also required to go through a background check annually. Additionally students and caregivers working in the classroom must complete all required licensing and enrollment forms.

    *On or after 1st birthday

All licensing and enrollment paperwork is due by August 1st as it can take several weeks for SCPNS to verify completeness and process all forms before the start of the school year. If enrolling during the school year, all paperwork is due two weeks prior to students’ start date.

This paperwork includes health forms that must be signed by your child’s pediatrician, as well as forms that must be signed by the physician of the caregiver who will be working in the classroom. These health forms typically require a physical exam by a physician, though some physicians might complete the forms without one, as long as there is one on file within the last calendar year. Making an appointment with a physician can take several weeks, as can submitting the paperwork for completion. SCPNS recommends giving yourself at least a month to complete all health forms, so please plan accordingly.

In addition to health forms, there are a number of other licensing and enrollment forms that need to be completed. SCPNS recommends reviewing the forms prior to submitting an enrollment application and choosing a start date to help ensure that the process goes smoothly.

  • Each family will have a parent/guardian or caregiver work one half-day in the classroom each week, attend monthly evening meetings, as well as assist with two weekend maintenance assignments a year and participate in one work party each year. Additionally, each family will hold a committee, or coordinator job, or serve on the board of directors to help our SCPNS community thrive.

At SCPNS the partnership between teachers and parents is highly valued and an important cornerstone of our community. That being said, we understand that the weekly classroom hours may pose a hardship for some families. SCPNS strives to accommodate all families and upon board approval a caregiver aside from the parent/guardian may work in the classroom.

Additionally, the parent work day can be covered in a variety of ways. In some families, the same parents/guardian or caregiver works the weekly shift, others have rotated between parents/guardians or caregivers. We have had families rotate between mom and dad, or between mom and dad and grandpa or grandma.

Interested in joining our community, but can’t commit to the classroom each week? There are a limited number of non co-op spots available every year for families who are unable to commit to working in the classroom each week. These families will still be required to participate in evening meetings, maintenance, work party, and committees.
