Parent Requirements at SCPNS
Each family will have a parent/guardian or caregiver work one half-day in the classroom each week, attend monthly evening meetings, as well as assist with two weekend maintenance assignments a year and participate in one work party each year. Additionally, each family will hold a committee, or coordinator job, or serve on the board of directors to help our SCPNS community thrive.
At SCPNS the partnership between teachers and parents is highly valued and an important cornerstone of our community. That being said, we understand that the weekly classroom hours may pose a hardship for some families. SCPNS strives to accommodate all families and upon board approval a caregiver aside from the parent/guardian may work in the classroom.
Additionally, the parent work day can be covered in a variety of ways. In some families, the same parents/guardian or caregiver works the weekly shift, others have rotated between parents/guardians or caregivers. We have had families rotate between mom and dad, or between mom and dad and grandpa or grandma.
Interested in joining our community, but can’t commit to the classroom each week? There are a limited number of non co-op spots available every year for families who are unable to commit to working in the classroom each week. These families will still be required to participate in evening meetings, maintenance, work party, and committees.
